New Layout/Todo List

Obviously we've changed the layout a bit. You can thank Motor. On for the new design and me for the banner up top. I think it looks a bit better than before, so we'll leave it this way unless we find something better.

S.T.A.R.S. has made a clan todo list at http://noobcakes.com/todo. Take a look there, and any clan members please comment with any additions to the todo list, unless you have the proper file permissions to edit them.

I also discovered a miniprofile thing for xfire, so whenever we're playing online games you should be able to tell. I'll try to upload them into the website.

CS 1.6 Res Files

Okay first off I've decided to ditch the title system for blog posts (where I basically just put in the date) since that didn't really hold any relevant information (and the date is automatically posted anyway). As you know, I've been trying to figure out how to put in custom models for guns and players and such, but I've so far been unsuccessful. At first I thought the only way to do it was to use a plugin called amxx_mmm, which forces the client to download stuff. That required AMX Mod X, which did not successfully install on the server. Also, I'm really not even sure if amxx_mmm forces all model downloads - to my understanding it just forces ct and t downloads, which are currently not what I'm trying to change. Then I learned of the .res file. There is one .res file for each map on the server. The point of a .res file is to ensure that if a server is using custom maps (ie those not included with the client's install of the game), all textures, sounds, and decals that go with the map are downloaded so that the client can play that particular map. I tried putting the models into the .res file, but so far that hasn't worked either. When a client tries to connect to the server, it downloads the sounds and then drops them because "the server is enforcing file consistency for w_c4.mdl". w_c4.mdl is a model for the C4 that I tried to get the client to download. I did tell the server to enforce file consistency, but I took that clause out of the config files when it threw this error. It still does the same thing. Looks like I've got some work to do. It has occurred to me that the .res file is not the way to force model downloads, since they are intended for textures and such. The .res file might download everything from the server into a .wad file for the client, which means it isn't actually replacing the client-side models. I'm sure there's a way to do it though, since I've seen plenty of servers that have accomplished this task.

Sorry if that didn't make any sense.

Weekend Clan Update

Hey clan.

So far this weekend nothing new to report. We attempted to install AMX Mod X on the CS 1.6 server (cs.noobcakes.com) so that we could change the models of guns, ts, and cts. Unfortunately the attempt was unsuccessful, and I'm working on finding a better way to get it installed. This weekend we will try to get a halo server set up, but it may not happen until next weekend or the one after. Okay that's all I have time for now, S.T.A.R.S. might update you on other information he finds relevant.

January 26th Clan Update

Hey clan!
Not much for today. The weekend approaches, though, and most of our decisions and updates will occur then. We'll take another crack at setting up the forums this weekend. The issue is that there is some program that acts as a bridge between MySQL and the PHP pages, which is what we need to download. We've tried it in the past, but so far we've been unsuccessful on my server. We successfuly set up forums on alloscomp.com last year, but the server crashed and our precious forums were lost. Now we've got to go figure out what we did back then and do it again.

Motor. On informed us of the AoE3 setup. There is no way to set up a dedicated server because Ensemble (or Microsoft) sucks. Personally I think it's Ensemble's fault. Motor. On says it's Microsoft's because they made Ensemble release it early... Doesn't mean they couldn't write a patch or just tell Microsoft to fuck off. (I'd rather see them do the first one, the second would be ugly... but pretty funny...) The clan can stay NerdH if Motor. On wants it to, but I'd prefer if it were N|3C for uniformity. Motor. On should add on an edit to this post explaining again, just for record-keeping purposes, how to join and connect to the AoE3 branch of NoobCakes.

January 25th Clan Update

Okay we've written too many posts today so I'm going to consolidate them and shorten them into a small(ish) post highlighting the updates for today. Here goes nothing.

Okay, first thing's first - Motor. On got the AoE3 branch of the clan set up. Unfortunately it's in the wrong name, and we're straightening that out now. Also, we're working on creating aoe.noobcakes.com as a virtual host for the AoE3 server. (It's not a dedicated server, it will only be up when Motor. On starts a game.) We're working on fixing all the problems with the AoE3 Branch right now.

Second, I drafted and then implemented a ranking system for all versions of Counter-Strike and for Battlefield 2 (including all expansions). It's now available at http://noobcakes.com/members.htm.

Finally, S.T.A.R.S. and I installed the WebMod for the CS 1.6 Server. Now, you can go to http://cs.noobcakes.com:27015/ to see who's playing on the server and their statistics for that round.

Okay that's enough.

Draft Ranking System

I've come up with at least a start for the N|3C Ranking system. Motor. On somewhat prematurely called himself a Corporal, which undoubtedly he deserves, but so far we haven't come up with a ranking system yet. There needs to be something concrete, so here's my first crack at it. I've only come up with a system for all Counter-Strike games, so here's my run at it. I can't think of a more fitting way to do it than KD ratio. We'll come up with ranks for Halo, AoE 3, and Battlefields 1942 and 2. (I'm not gonna make a distinction between 2 and SF, since they're really the same game. I don't even know if a ranking distinction is necessary between either battlefield game.)

--N|3C Ranking System--

Counter-Strike 1.6 and Source
KD Rank
.50 Corporal
.60 Sergeant
.70 Staff Sergeant
.80 Sergeant First Class
.90 Master Sergeant
1.0 Sergeant Major
1.10 2nd Lieutenant
1.20 First Lieutenant
1.4 Captain
1.6 Major
1.8 Lieutenant Colonel
2.0 Colonel
2.25 Brigadier General
2.50 Major General
2.75 Lieutenant General
3.00 General
3.50 Two-Star General
4.00 Three-Star General
5.00 Four-Star General
10.00 Five-Star General (Leader of the United States Army)

Let me know what you think of that. Seems pretty fair. Five-Star General should be extremely hard to obtain, so that's why it's kd of 10.

***EDIT*** - I apologize for what I said about alan's rank. I was previously unaware that battlefield 2 keeps its own ranking systems. So we'll just use those. Also, I plan to assign a number to each rank (1, 2, 3 etc...) so that we don't have a separate rank from each game. We'll find the average number so that we can find your average rank. So we still need to come up with ranks for the other games, and then we'll work on assigning a number to each one.

Age of Empires 3

Age of Empires 3 handles clans slightly differently, and here is what to do to join the AoE3 version of Noobcakes, The Nerd Herd [NerdH]
  1. Get AoE3
  2. Get a username on ESO (Ensemble Studos Online)
  3. Email me: knightquestsupport@gmail.com
  4. I will invite you into the clan.
[NerdH] basically allows you to play an online game where only the clan is allowed in. Therefore you know the player you are against and can be in a secure game. When you are in the clan you will receive a password for all [NerdH] games.

-Motor.On
BF2:SF rank: Corporal

Free Gun Here! - I don't know where you came up with Corporal..... Anyway I think we need to change the clan name from NerdH to N|3C to keep it uniform... NerdH doesn't really fit with the clan style so I think it's in desparate need of a change. Plus on the website it says we keep our clan tags wherever we go, so we need to make that true. Do we have a server for AoE3? I'm guessing you just create a game on your computer and invite clan members whenever you feel like playing... This poses two problems - first, people have to be in the clan to join the game, which is bad. Sure, it lets you play in a game where you know everyone, but then nobody sees our clan on AoE3. We're losing valuable advertising by keeping it private on that game. Plus the games are bound to be very small, since almost nobody in the clan so far has that game. I know I can't play it on my computer, and I'm not very fond of it anyway. The second problem is that we don't have a consistent server for people to join. They would have to wait for you to be available to create a game. So, changes that need to be made on the AoE3 Branch:
1) Conformation of Clan Call Signs
2) Eventual creation of dedicated server
3) aoe.noobcakes.com virtual server pointing at our dedicated server, and temporarily at Motor. On's IP address so that we can join his created games.

S.T.A.R.S., you're on the dedicated server. The dedicated server is probably well in the future since we need the hardware to create such a server. Motor. On, I advise you to make the AoE3 clan have the same name as the N|3C clan in order to avoid confusion.

Motor.On edit-
First off, there are no dedicated servers in AoE3. Ensemble simply sets up a game on your system and then it goes. You cannot set up a dedicated server. Not at all possible. Don't say it sucks, because it isn't Ensemble's fault. Blame Microsoft( They said to publish too early, so ESO sukz).
I'll change the name I guess...
You don't need my IP adress, I just tell you the game name in the clan area, you put in the passwd (if there is one) and Viola! you are in the game. No need for IP.

CS 1.6 Server

The Counter-Strike 1.6 server (at tagteamtech.com) is starting to get more popular. I had a full server for a few hours today. That game is so much easier than Counter-Strike: Source after you've played Source for a while. Okay, well I'm not sure how much better a job I could do explaining stuff than S.T.A.R.S. , he pretty much said everything that needs to be said.

We plan to register the domain noobcakes.com, and we'll use cs.noobcakes.com, css.noobcakes.com, halo.noobcakes.com, and bf.noobcakes.com for our servers, since it makes them much easier to keep track of. Also, I've begun work on a new message of the day for both servers, so that they look a tad cooler. Okay, that's all for today.

-Free Gun Here!

-EDIT-
The domain noobcakes.com has been registered. See http://noobcakes.com, the new URL for our website, for new server URLs. More details will be posted on the blog tomorrow.

Plans

Since we already have a website for this clan, the blog will be mostly about news. As it stands right now, Noobcakes has five members: Free Gun Here!, S.T.A.R.S., Spartan-117, Motor. On, and BF-109 Elite. We have two servers, CS:S and CS1.6, which can also be found on the website. We're planning to add a BF1942 server and a Halo server once we find a place to run them. We also have a Ventrilo server running at alloscomp.com:3784. There's more I should say, but no time now. Hopefully FGH will post soon, because he's good at explaining stuff.

Noobcakes News

S.T.A.R.S. - Hello all. This is the Noobcakes Clan Blog. Here we will keep you up to date on clan status. Please bear with me for the week, since most of the Noobcakes Clan stuff will be done over the weekend. I'll post more then. For now, read the website.

Free Gun Here! - Hey gang. As S.T.A.R.S. so eloquently put it, this is the [N|3C] Blog. We'll be filling you in on all the clan information as it develops. Right now, S.T.A.R.S. has the CS:S server at his house and I've got the CS 1.6 at mine. Check the website above for server lists and mods, the member list, and a contact us page. Explore there for a while. This weekend we'll get most of the stuff updated. We're right now attempting to get Halo and Battlefield 1942 servers set up at other clanmember's houses, and then possibly we might get a Battlefield 2 server as well. That's pretty far in the future though. Okay I've rambled enough. See you in the servers!
